玻璃屋樣式在設計上是一種採用玻璃採光罩材質作為屋頂，透過金屬骨架搭建結構，立面結合玻璃窗與門的非傳統造型建築，以達到享受陽光，親近自然的目的。推薦運用在屋頂和頂樓加蓋的露台、陽台、庭園和車庫等室外場所的設計之中，做為曬衣間，或廚房，或花園，或泡咖啡等休閒空間。

玻璃屋多以透明或玻璃的採光罩(覆蓋)材質作為屋頂，實際上採光罩材質上有玻璃、PC板、塑鋁板(鋁塑板)、中空板等選擇，玻璃屋頂的種類有強化玻璃與膠合玻璃等選擇，基於安全性推薦採用一般或是強化的透明或白膜膠合玻璃。

玻璃屋立面部分結合窗戶如活動式防颱百葉窗、氣密窗或隔音窗等，結合大門如落地窗拉門，三合一通風門，形成關閉時能阻風遮雨，開啟時能通風透氣，具有活動性能的玻璃屋。

由於考量玻璃本身對於採光罩和屋頂的負載，以及整體尺寸對於颱風風雨的負載，一般推薦採用H型鋁鋼構(強化型骨架)作為玻璃屋與採光罩
